Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger is wealthy, successful, talented and healthy. But his daughter, Ally Hilfiger, is following a different path; she literally wrote the book on Lyme Disease, "Bite Me". I like the cheeky title. Like a lot of Lyme patients, she spend most of her life suffering, due to misdiagnoses. These misdiagnoses include ADHD, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia. I can definitely relate.
Ally was finally properly diagnosed with Lyme Disease at the age of 19, so it goes to show that knowledge is power, and early detection is actually everything.
Ally is now 31 and recently released her battle in "Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy, and Almost Killed Me." Luckily there's a happy ending, but it serves as a sobering reminder of how easily this disease can take one's life away.
