Thank Goodness It's Summer (But Take Care Around These Animals)

The good news - it's summer! I'm personally stoked to go to the beach, stroll through my neighborhood and enjoy patios and rooftop lounges. Oh, and wear cute dresses and soak up all the Vitamin D I can handle. Summer in Chicago is my favorite time of year. But I'm also cautious around animals, because ticks feed on blood and animals are no exception, especially during the summer.

Lyme Disease is spread through the bite of an infected tick and below is a full list of animals that you should be careful around because they can carry these ticks. Rise up and fight those little critters! (Don't actually fight them). And check your dogs for ticks as well; they can get Lyme Disease too.

  • Deer
  • Mice
  • Chipmunks
  • Squirrels
  • Opossums
  • Raccoons
  • Dogs
  • Horses
  • Lizards
  • Rabbits
  • Birds that feed on the ground (migratory birds distribute ticks across the country: damn them!)
